Just Sharing...

I am a rubbernecker when I drive. And I drive a lot. I am looking at and for things, special things; hawks, ducks, deer, perfect trees, beaver dams....My deepest hope is to see an owl one day.

One day, riding with X in her neck of the woods, we saw some pheasants. I don't think I had ever seen them in the wild before. I saw one the other day, again, on the way home from work. He was bopping along a rock wall that bordered a cemetary. I screeched to a halt on the curb, grabbed my camera and ran across the road. But I scared him and he kept bopping away from me through the cemetary, with me trying to keep up. I gave up with the picture thing, but chuckled for awhile at the memory of him running through the cemetery with his funny hoppy steps.
Today, while in Newport, I saw a couple of deer in a clearing in the woods, and a skunk. The skunk was sick, since it was daylight out, and it was staggering and hobbling.

AND, driving home later, going by the holstein farm, I saw a cow, licking and nudging a lump on the ground. As I went by, I thought about what I saw, and realized it was a new calf. I turned around and parked on the other side of the white wooden fence, and grabbed the camera. The new little calf had just gotten up, probably for the first time in its newborn life. Mom was just licking it to death and trying to get this wobbly little thing to find the nipple. Lord have mercy, those nipples were NOT hard to find....milk jest asquirtin' everwhare!
So here are a few pictures of a new life that I JUST missed being born, but saw the first steps....they are not good pictures, I tried. He was a darling little calf, and I'm still smiling at my unexpected 'ride home from work' gift....
Peace, and no burgers for me tonight....

What a nice spring day. The pictures aren't bad at all, they get bigger when you click on them and you can see them way better. Jack sure liked seeing the baby cow. How 'bout in one of the pictures, mom is looking at you like, "back off crazy lady". Were you scared at all or just thrilled? I'm glad you got to see this and that you shared it with us. Too bad about the pheasant, but your writing is so good, I had a picture in my mind.

FAVORITE POST EVER!! Cows are the best. It's fun to see how you react when you see wild life. It explains how I can see a deer in the woods off the side of the road before anyone else. Or why crazy racfoons go running through the Fong's parking lot in front of me and my dog and my dog doesn't notice, but I do...

love you.
