The scent of the lilacs outside of the open window is wafting in the house. It is incredibly delightful and lifts my mood.
What are my goals for today.
Some cleaning. Always. I don't think I can scurve out of shopping, either. I want to make some granola. I want a new vacuum cleaner. I need some new pillows. Today needs to be a shopping day.
Yesterday was one of those days - the kind that doesn't happen very often. Just before noon, on my way back from Newport to my office, I recieved a call that said I could take off early, as soon as my weekly, and monthly reports were completed. Way cool, since it was a beautiful day. I had mailed my Netflicks movies already. Had a successful mission in Newport, and had a few more errands to complete. Had to go to THREE banks, and stop and get batteries for Nikko's electric fence collar. Within 20 minutes I had two of the banking stops completed. No glitches, no problems popping up, nothing. Smooth as silk. Back to the office, got the reports done in about ten minutes flat. Stopped at the third bank on the way home, quick, efficient, painless. STILL no glitches, no problems. Whoa. Not even a slew of idiots on the road....
Halfway home. Darn it!!! I forgot to go to Home Depot to get the batteries. Rats. Couldn't put that off - we knew the batteries were dead because Nikko had disappeared this morning. Do I turn around? Well, there is a neighborhood hardware/feed store on the way home, the kind that is rare and hard to find anymore. Don't think I've ever stopped there. What are the odds, would they have the batteries? Let's check, couldn't hurt. Pull in. Park. Walk in. Admire three crates of fuzzy little chicks peeping their stories. Find the pet aisle. No batteries. Not surprised. But they have those tie out things you can screw into the ground. This should do until I go shopping on Saturday. Bring it to the counter. Ask the nice lady, who probably owns the store, "I didn't see the electric collar batteries...do you have them?". She turns around, AND BEHIND HER IS THE DISPLAY FOR ELECTRIC COLLAR BATTERIES!!!!!!!!!" She hands me a package, and I am faint with joy.
Get out of Dodge. This RARELY happens, and always makes me smile when it does. Finding the golden chalice in the first place I look. Cool.
Stop at the local pizza place. I've been so careful with my diet, even opting for baked fish when we go out to eat, that I decided to treat myself to something not so good for me - stinky pizza and a piece of carrot cake.
I ate the whole thing while sitting in bed watching "Wrist Slashers", a pretty good movie if you can get past the premise. It is a different sort of love story. Sean was out, Paul still in Seattle, so it was just me, and I totally indulged myself. Later I turned on Rock Band, and dressed and accessorized my character - she has sort of a collegiate look, with taped up glasses and bouncy short hair, a black tee and plaid pants with striped shoes. I love her. I had a good solo tour up until I reached the song "Green Grass and High Tides", by the Outlaws. Failed miserably. Time to put the sticks away. Talked to H a little on the phone.
Got the carrot cake out, and relished every bite while playing some spider solitaire. Decided the day was over, and crawled under the covers with my latest book - "Sidhartha", by Herman Hesse.
And now, the scent of Lilacs is wafting in the open window.
Life is pretty good today. If you can tolerate a very peaceful sort of quiet existence. Which I can, which I like.
It is H's birthday tomorrow. I feel like calling his parents and thanking them for making him.
Looking forward to next weekend! Please get my phone number from X or I can send in email if anyone needs to call. Come as early as you can. Do sun dances ALL WEEK, so we have nice weather.
Peace, my friends -

Sidhartha made me a narcoleptic. Inner peace is boring. But very fruitful.

Hope your shopping went well and you are enjoying your main squeeze being home.
I love lilacs. When I was a kid in Albuquerque, we had a large bush that grew next to the air conditioner and so it would pull their scent into the house. Loved it. I have one scragly thing now-now blooms. It was a piece of my mother-in-law's, planted a few years ago and always just barely hangin on. Hope they are still blooming when I get there.
Guess what? My parents-both of them-called me this morning, sang happy birthday and told me they fondly remember the day I was born. 36 years ago and they told me the story-nice...Things are looking better.
Sidhartha I got from the library when we were homeschooling on audio cds because they didn't have the book. The librarian cautioned me against using it for homeschool and that it was more appropriate for me. I confess we never listened to it. Partly because I was a little afraid and partly because it was some like 48 cds! I am curious though and would like to hear about it. Perhaps I'll pick it up. Ya know, if we lived closer we could just swap books back and forth!
I'm getting excited about this trip and nervous at the same time. Somehow I have avoided getting sick. Matt started yesterday and I just know I'm going to wake up Wed. sick as a dog. On top of our sun dances let us sacrifice something to the health goddess as well!
Love,
H.
Amen to the sacrifices - you all hear that???!!! Dance for sun, and sacrifice for H's health, live 17 year old boys will do....
glad your parents called, that was cool!
don't buy sidhartha = not a big book and you can have mine = wont take up much room in your suitcase.
H, Happy Birthday...belated...I am so, so, so sadly self absorbed with a litany of APPOINTMENTS all of which I cancelled the entire month of May to be a friend indeed.
Sad who I was a friend too-but they made me I suppose....need to be more forgiving clearly....
Elf, working on the weather and health dance-sacrifice. Sadie gave her hamstring, I suppose I could skip on my next splurge of food-junk food that is...I like junk..
OH, and we will bring munchies...
sorry no response yet, been out of touch or out to lunch-don't even know!
