Okay you guys. I'm on page 115 of Mary Todd Lincoln. Anyone else???
It's a little dry, but I'm finding it enjoyable. The author is very thorough and in the first part of the book she sets the scene - the history of the local culture, the family history (quite indepth), the norms of the time, and circumstances of her growing up. It all serves as a window through which the reader can draw some conclusions as to perhaps why Mary Todd is Mary Todd. I'm left with a picture of a unique young lady.
In the book now, she is married with her first two boys. This accounting of Mary's life so far has me impressed with the clearly well researched details. It's full of history, not only of the main character, but of all that goes into her life, her surroundings, the society, the people...
Next on my list is either the book H refers to in her latest post, or Mutant Message from Down Under, a book I read many years ago based on a recommendation by X, and which left me chewing on things for a long time. I can't wait to pick it up again.

We had a wonderful time in Lancaster County, PA. I gotta say, it was a little weird to stay at a Hampton Inn with my husband. But nice as the first snow of the season. (I'm writing this from my lonely room at the Hampton in Portsmouth, per usual).
Many thanks to my daughters for keeping up the homestead in our absence, and caring for our furry critters and Sean, too. The house was cleaner than when I left it. I'm glad they had friends to help them, and glad too, that X didn't get attacked in the water. But it's good she had courage.
Back at work, back to the whining and throat cutting. Lots of tossing in front of the busses, too. I do the best I can, and stay out of the line of fire. Paul got a promotion with a hefty raise. Yay, team. Now we can heat our home this winter.
Aight then. I'm pretty damn tired, and hitting the hay. Thats Amish for going to bed.
Love you all,
Peace

Hi Elf,
Glad you are back! Guess what? Your daughter's friends didn't help unless you are referring to other friends...to be said like "other woman". :-) All N. and I did was add chaos! With Sadie around thus far there is never a dull moment. X and Mel say we are almost there-that is, Sadie is almost at the age where she slows down a bit! Whew.
Confession, I didn't get the book yet, but I am going to reserve it this second at the library. My folks are HUGE library support people so it is genetically placed. They actually do a few things I am very proud of-like both are on the board of their local library and D is Treasurer. No surprise there-very good with money.
I am going to get that down under book too. Things that make you and X think make me extremely curious. OK, I will just say it...I adore you both.

great, I'm not reading the book....
You're not reading the book now, or you don't ever intend to read the book? why?
