The dichotomous nature of agendas eats my head. Agendas allow for freedom, but at the same time impose constraints that are burdensome.
On one hand, it's awful nice to have the clarity of agendas. In a meeting, it means the purpose and flow of any discussion is spelled out. A weekend agenda means the efficient use of a limited amount of time, getting the most 'bang for the buck'.
Conversely, a weekend agenda also means saying adios to spontaneity, those last minute ideas, or weather conducive activities that would be lots of fun.
"What a gorgeous day, lets go kayaking."
"We can't, we've made plans to ________________."
So, do you plan or not????
Who knows. After a very hectic week at work, I hesitated to put one item on my agenda for this last three day weekend of summer. I sort of regret it. Many times a two day weekend will go by with me saying, "If I only had one more day I could get this done." On the other hand, I'm relaxed. I finally broke a 37 game winning streak in Free Cell. Please note - I am not bragging about my winning streak. Not only is the game easy, and losing is sort of shameful, but it's a pathetic accomplishment.
The thing is, I set my mind free while I play. It's nice.
And it's not that I didn't get anything done. I just sort of puttered. I did an enormous amount of laundry, because I finally got fed up with my boy's room and cleaned it. I cleaned the refrigerator. I don't know about you guys, but this is a sore spot with me. There is a spot for everything. That way we know when we're down to the last of it. So if people keep just shoving things in the refrigerator, you never know what is in back and end up with multiple open things, like five italian dressings, two mayonaisses, two cream cheeses....
People - everything in the fridge is arranged by similarities. everything in the fridge has a spot reserved especially for it. please use this simple system to it's advantage. you'll know where to find things, and if we need to replace something. simple.
Today is the last day of this mini-vacation. I am filled with 'shoulds'. I should hem some of the clothing that I've purchased recently. I should work on my little sunflower table. I should take a long walk in the woods on this beautiful sunny day. I should run the dustmop over the floors and get the sand up.
But the truth is, there is absolutely nothing on my agenda today except to put a vegetarian chili in the crockpot and finish up a couple loads of laundry.
I think sometimes life needs to be that way.
Peace

Hi Elf,
Nice freecell streak. N and I thought we were the only ones who actually look at the statistics. Nice to know we are not alone.
Mmm vegetarian chili. Sounds good. I so, so relate to issues regarding the shoving of items to the back of the frig. Also, if an item is particularly an eeuu item-another person who might know it needs to be discarded either a) ignores it and shoves it further back so as to avoid washing the container. Or, a good container gets the heave ho because another person thought it easier to just chuck it than clean it.
Nice of you to shovel out Sean. Also, no weekend accomplishment can be deemed shameful-new rule.
:-) I am with you on the wish I did v wish I didn't weekend planning. Sometimes when we lay low but have options I am ashamed to say what we really did, like snuggle and watch a movie, or not snuggle and watch a movie. Or if we have a total dog day-we worry others may think we are insanely in love with Sadie. Which-we are. Who gives a _____ anyway?
Over, out, peace friend-PT
